It was extremely cold at night in the past two years, and the temperature dropped down to the low 20s. Seeing the forecast two days ago, I got quite worried and decided to cover two of the clusters (that carried the most buds) with two black plant pots placed upside down.
Today the temperature has just gone beyond the freeze point. Yet, the sky was still grey, and I was in a pensive mood. In the afternoon, I went outside to check on the daffodils. Opening the first plant pot, I found that the tips of some buds were a bit bent, perhaps because the pot was a bit too short. Not expecting much, I moved on to open the second plant pot.
A flash of bright yellow color - right in front of my eyes was a blooming daffodil!
There're no words describing the daffodils that are more beautiful than Wordsworth's famous poem "I wandered lonely as a cloud".
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
