Notes and stories:

2020 was the first year I planted lavenders. The largest one, shown in this profile picture, withered and died out after a long beautiful flowering season. Fortunately, three small ones survived and they are thriving in the winter.

Not sure why, but I have always thought that the name lavender suggested something sentimental. Before covid time, every now and then, I would go to a cozy local cafe named The Drawing Room. Sometimes, I was the only one in the cafe, either before the late morning or after the early afternoon crowd. I would order a pot of lavender tea and a cranberry orange flavored scone. The owner’s favorite music seemed to be love songs, slow, sentimental, in French.

Roses are red, my love
Violets are blue
Lavender’s purple and sentimental
But not as sentimental as you
