Notes and stories:

4 o’clock jasmine is a very attractive plant for its vibrant colors and long blooming season, typically from June all the way into late October. Interestingly, each day the flowers only blossom from late afternoon (around 4pm, hence its special name) to early next morning. When the sun rises high, it simply retreats and starts accumulating energy for the next bloom. The plant is easy to care, drought and heat tolerant and animal resistant.

The best way to propagate 4 o’clock jasmine is through seeds. Its seeds are shaped like tiny landmines, and that’s why the name “landmine flowers” in Chinese. I had a big harvest in 2020, collecting several hundreds of seeds in three different colors - yellow, pink and hybrid. If you are interested in planting 4 o’clock jasmine, just let me know :)
